“If sailing across the gulf from Posidonia,  the island of Leucosia can be seen standing out at a short distance from the coast called with the name of one of the Sirens here fallen after they plunged down  into the abysses of the sea. Facing the island is the promontory of Sirenusse embracing  the gulf of Posidonia. Rounding the promontory, another gulf appears where is a town called Hyele.”

(Strabo. Geography  Book VI, 1, 1)
